Imperial Circus Dead Decadence
I have always this love-hate relationship with ICDD. I like their songs, I love some of them, but I hate the fact their lyrics are for most written using archaic Japanese –and sometimes weird (poem-like) structures. Sometimes, to make it understandable in English, I really have to destroy the original structure, but well, it can’t be helped. Before going on, keep in mind that in some parts, due to the lack of context and/or phrases’ parts, I used my interpretation to “complete” them. Also, sorry for the excess of let’s-try-to-Early-Modern-English –but, if this may makes you feel better, I’ve used it only when there were archaisms in Japanese. Requested by Daniel Notes “黄泉より聴こゆ、皇国の燈と焔の少女”, “yomi yori kikoyu, koukoku no tou to honoo no kanojou”, “Thou, listen from hell to the empire’s torch and the girl’s flames”. Though I thought about translated the latter part as “girl’s passion”, I think “flames” it’s actually a more appropriate term given the context. Furthermore, this is an unnecessary note. “ 人は天空へ People”; I honestly can’t hear those words been sung.
I hear the part after, but not this one. Probably it’s just sung in ICDD’s fictional language, or maybe it’s my equalizer. Either ways, I can’t hear those lyrics.
“ 人は虚空へ People”; same as above. “ 水が低きに流れるように Like water”; I couldn’t really find a better way to put this phrase in English, considering it should be an adaptation to the Japanese idiom meaning “Water naturally flows towards the bottom, humans naturally follow the easy way”. If anybody has a better idea, he/she is welcome to share it On a side note, I hear “nagareteyuku” and not “nagareteiku”, but I’ve decided to stick with the lyrics written in the booklet, also because there’s no true difference in the meaning.
